Norwich nursery to unveil results of £365,000 revamp at open day

A nursery in Heartsease will unveil the results of a £365,000 transformation at an open morning later this year.

Woodside One Neighbourhood Nursery, run by Norfolk County Council, has been renovated and extended to create extra places. The project, funded by the council, includes an extension to the pre-school classroom, a kitchen expansion and changes to the interior, as well as the creation of a sensory and sleep room. It will allow for eight extra places per session, which could mean space for up to 80 more children every week.

Penny Carpenter, chairman of the children’s services committee at the county council, said: “I am delighted to see the progress made at the superb Woodside One Neighbourhood Nursery. The nursery has seen many major changes, which have further improved the excellent service provided and means that we can support the learning of even more children locally.”

Additional staff have been hired across the nursery, on Witard Road, to cope with the intake. An open morning will be held from 10am to 12pm on Saturday, July 14 to give parents and children a chance to learn more about the nursery. There will be interactive sessions across the three main rooms, and staff on hand to answer questions.

Kate Oakley, head of the nursery, said: “We are very excited to offer an open morning to showcase our wonderful redevelopment, and the improvements made possible by it. This is an excellent opportunity for our attending families to enjoy the facilities together and for interested prospective parents to explore the setting at a relaxed pace and speak to some of our brilliant teaching staff. Choosing early education and care is a tough decision for parents, we appreciate this and aim to offer families the information and support they need to make the right choice for them.”

George Nobbs, county councillor for the area, said the nursery fulfils a need for both the Heartsease area and the wider community.
Last November, the nursery was rated outstanding by Ofsted.

I’ll be posting an update on the success of the professional seminar series shortly too!
